Motorcycle License (Class 6)

alberta-motorcycle-licence-class-6In order to become licensed to drive a motorcycle (Class 6), you must take both a Knowledge Test and a Road Test.

Knowledge Test

Prepare for the Class 6 Knowledge Test by reading the Motor Cycle Rider’s Guide. When you feel prepared for the computer test, come into Registries Plus with your current driver’s license and the $17.60 test fee. There is no need for an appointment, but we ask that you arrive one hour before closing (i.e. by 5 pm Monday-Friday and by 4 pm on Saturday). There will be a total of 30 questions. To pass, you must get 25 questions correct. If you get six questions wrong, then unfortunately you fail and you’ll have to come back another day to write the test again. You can continue to write daily until you pass.

Once you pass the Motorcycle Knowledge test, you can drive for up to one year with your Class 5 licence and the Class 6 Knowledge Test permit, provided you are accompanied by a Class 6 license holder.

Motorcycle Road Test

Please call us at 403 207-5158 to schedule your Motorcycle Road Test. You will need to provide your own motorcycle which meets all mechanical requirements. You will also need to wear a Transportation-approved helmet and be prepared to show your valid licence and permit, valid registration and insurance for the motorcycle. These don’t have to be in your name, but the names on the insurance and registration documents must match. The cost for the test is $149.90, including permit and tax.

If you pass the road test, you can re-class your license to include Class 6. There is a $22.45 fee for this service and your current licence will need to be shredded. If you want to wait to re-class, you can keep your permit that shows you passed the road test for up to a year.
