The fee for changing your name or address is $22.45. You may need to have a new photo taken, but most likely you will be allowed to use the photo we have on file. You will, however, need to sign for the new license.
Your current license or ID card will be shredded in front of you and you will leave our office with a paper interim license which does not have a photo. It will take approximately 2 weeks to receive the actual card in the mail. If you haven’t received the new card within 21 days, call 780 427-7013 for an explanation of the delay. Then, please come back to our office with your temporary ID or Driver’s License and a piece of ID so we can order a replacement.
In Alberta you are required to come into the registry in person for all driver’s license services – you cannot authorize another individual to do this on your behalf. There is no “rush” service available for driver’s licenses – they are printed off-site.
When you move residences, you have up to 14 days to change your address on your driver’s license or ID card. The fee for this is $22.45. If your ID or Driver’s License is still valid, we don’t require any additional documents. Please verify your mailing address – if the address isn’t correct, you might not receive your license in the mail!
If you are married and are assuming your partner’s last name, you can make the change to your driver’s license simply by presenting your marriage certificate and your valid license or ID card.
If you are making a change to your name for any other reason, we will need to see a Legal Name Change certificate, birth certificate, valid passport or PR Card.
Please note: you may be able to save the $22.45 fee if your license will be expiring soon as we can make changes to name or address at the same time that we renew it.
Did you know we can administer oaths and witness affidavits and statutory declarations for documents remaining in Alberta? Our fee is just $17.65. Save money and come see us first!
If you have a plate with valid registration that you no longer need, bring it in to Registries Plus. If there is valid registration remaining, we can request a refund for you.
If you have moved, changed your name, changed your phone or if there are any changes to your vehicle details, please come in so we can update your file.
