Alberta Drivers Licence Renewals, Updates and Replacement
Since the Government of Alberta no longer mails out renewal notices to remind you when your licence will expire, we recommend that you sign up for an email or text notification. We can renew your drivers licence or change the address or name on your Alberta driver’s licence. Have you lost your licence? No problem! We can help with that to?
If you are 14 years of age or older, you are probably eligible to take the Class 7 Knowledge Test. Once you pass this computer test, you can start driving as a learner.
If you have had a Class 7 licence for at least one year, you may be eligible to go for a Basic Road Test to get your Class 5 GDL Licence. If you already hold a Class 5 GDL licence and you want to exit the GDL program, we can set you up for an Advanced Road Test.
Whether you want to drive for Uber, become a school bus driver, or do long haul truck driving across the country, if you are going to drive professionally, you will need a Commercial Licence. The process varies depending upon what type of driving you want to be qualified to do, your age and health, and the licence you already have.
Out of Province Drivers
Have you just moved to Alberta from another province? You can drive on your home province licence for three months. After that, you need to exchange your out-of-province licence for an Alberta drivers licence. It is simple to do, but read more to find out what documents will be required.
Out of Country Drivers

Driver Abstracts are often required by employers or insurance companies. In Alberta, Driver Abstracts are considered to contain confidential personal information, so you will need to come into Registries Plus or arrange for a friend to do so on your behalf.
We accept current and overdue fine payments at our office. There is a $9.45 (includes GST) service fee for each payment. If there are overdue fines on your motor vehicle account, you will need to clear these up before we can do any services for you.
Alberta Drivers Licence Suspensions and Interlock Applications
If your licence has been suspended for any reason, you will need to visit our office to apply for a reinstatement. Because every situation is different, we recommend that you come see us in person so we can provide you with accurate information.
